Sparks Studio: Igniting the Will to Work
Age 4-Early Readers Monday – Thursday 8a-1p.

While traditional early childhood programs in Colorado Springs focus on passive entertainment and “school readiness,” the Courage Academy Sparks Studio focuses on something far more powerful: The Will to Work. We believe that children ages 4 to 7 are not too young for the “real world”—they are simply in the first stage of mastering it.
A Foundation of Independence
In the Sparks Studio, we replace “circle time” and teacher-led crafts with a carefully curated environment designed for autonomy. Here, our youngest learners are given the freedom to choose their work, manage their time, and take responsibility for their space. This isn’t just play; it is the early development of agency. By learning to zip their own coats, clean their own studios, and navigate their own social conflicts, Sparks build the foundational muscle memory of independence.
The Adventure of Discovery
We don’t ask them to memorize—we ask them to discover. Whether they are building complex structures in a Architect Quest or mastering phonics at their own pace, they are learning that effort leads to achievement. They discover joy and mastery using natural materials that are Montessori inspired, sensory play, and loose-parts. They build agency, self-confidence, and personal goals through child-directed learning that is self-motivated and deeply rewarding.
Fueling the Fire
The goal of the Sparks Studio is to protect and fuel the natural curiosity every child is born with. We provide the boundaries and the tools; they provide the wonder. By the time a learner moves into our Elementary Studio, they are no longer “students” waiting for instruction—they are independent learners who know that the real world awaits, and they are already practicing how to lead it.
“I’ve seen my son find a joy of learning and exploring new things. His excitement over completing goals encourages me that he will continue to be self-motivated throughout his life.”

Discovery Studio: The Proving Ground for the Real World
Early Readers-11y Monday – Thursday 8a-3p

In the traditional Colorado Springs education system, the elementary years are often reduced to a series of worksheets, ‘sit-still’ lectures, and standardized tests that measure memorization rather than capability. At Courage Academy, we believe these years are too precious to waste on passivity. We don’t see our Elementary Studio as a classroom; we see it as a proving ground. This is where the transition from “student” to “learner” truly takes hold. This is where real-world grit is forged.
Moving Beyond the Worksheet
The real world doesn’t hand out gold stars for showing up or multiple-choice tests to solve problems. It demands results. In our Elementary Studio, we trade rote memorization for mastery-based Learning. Our learners use cutting-edge, adaptive technology to master the core “3 Rs” (Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic), but they don’t move on until they have achieved 100% mastery.
There are no “holes” in their foundation. If a concept is difficult, they don’t get a failing grade and move on; they dig in, struggle, and conquer it. This is the birth of grit: the realization that struggle is not a sign of failure, but the literal sound of the brain growing stronger.
High-Stakes Quests and Entrepreneurship
While core skills are mastered individually, the afternoons in the Elementary Studio are dedicated to the Quest. These are multi-week, high-stakes projects designed to mirror the challenges of the modern economy.
One month, learners may be acting as city planners, using geometry and civil engineering to design a sustainable community. The next, they are entrepreneurs in the Children’s Business Fair, where they must move from an idea to a product, manage a budget, handle real marketing, and sell to actual customers for real profit. Through these quests, learners discover that math and science aren’t just subjects in a book—they are tools to solve problems and create value in the world.
The Socratic Method: Leading with Questions
In our studio, there are no teachers at the front of the room giving answers. Instead, we have Guides who lead through the Socratic Method. Every day begins with a high-stakes discussion where learners must tackle difficult ethical or logical dilemmas.
“Should a leader always tell the truth, even if it hurts the mission?” “Is it better to fail alone or succeed by taking credit for someone else’s work?”
By debating these questions, elementary-aged learners build the muscles of critical thinking, public speaking, and emotional intelligence. They learn to disagree with respect and lead with logic—skills that will set them apart for the rest of their lives.
The Real World Won’t Wait
We believe that children are capable of far more than society currently expects of them. In the Courage Academy Elementary Studio, we don’t protect them from the “hard stuff”—we equip them to handle it. We provide the boundaries, the tools, and the community, but the learner provides the drive.
By the time our learners graduate to the next level, they don’t just have a transcript of grades. They have a portfolio of work, a history of conquered challenges, and the unshakable grit required to say: “The real world awaits, and I am ready to lead it.”
“I feel like the skills my son is learning here are far more useful our in the real world than how traditional public schools teach. Kinda wish this method has been around when I was his age.“
